Kurtis

Kurtis McAleer is the former Chair & Founder of the Durham Youth Council. Kurtis also served the youth of Ajax as Youth Mayor and as Member of Youth Parliament.

Kurtis has lived in Ajax for fifteen years and has been involved in our community since moving here in 2004. He's also been involved in politics since he was just twelve years old.

Kurtis was educated locally at Durham College and earned an Advanced Ontario College Diploma in Advertising & Marketing Communications Management.

Kurtis ran in 2014 Ajax municipal election, running for Local Councillor in Ward Four (South-East Ajax). Kurtis placed second with just under 30% of the vote against an incumbent Councillor who served for twenty five years. He was only 21 years old at the time of that election.

In 2017, Kurtis & Skye welcomed Theodore to their family. Theo is Kurtis & Skye's first child.

In 2018, Kurtis again entered the Ajax municipal election. Running for Local Councillor; this time running in the newly aligned Ward Three (South Ajax). In July 2018, Kurtis withdrew from the local council race and endorsed Lisa Bower for Local Councillor, Ward Three. He subsequently filed his candidacy for Regional Councillor, Ward Three. Kurtis placed second, again with just under 30% of the vote.

Kurtis is a small business owner working in the Communications and Government Relations field as the Managing Partner of Lakeside Communications (formerly Innovative Advantage). In 2019, Kurtis returned to the Durham Youth Council as their Executive Director.
